spot on, but I could have told them this.

Non-conformist, Visionary, and Independent

Abstract art uses a visual language of form, color and line to create a composition which exists independently of what may appear to others as visual realities. Western had been underpinned by the logic of perspective and an attempt to reproduce an illusion of visible reality. It allowed the progressive thinking artists to show a different side to the world around them. By the end of the 19th century many artists felt a need to create a 'new kind of art' which would encompass the fundamental changes taking place in technology, science and philosophy. Abstract artists created art that was diverse and reflected the social and intellectual turmoil in all areas of Western culture.

People that chose abstract art as their preferred artform tend to be visionsaries. They see things in the world around them and in people that others may miss because they look beyond what is visual only with the eye. They rely on their inner thoughts and feelings in dealing with the world around them instead of on what they are told they should think and feel. They feel freed from the tendancy to be bound by traditional thought and experiences. They look more toward their own ideas and experiences than what they are told by their religious upbringing or from scientific evidence. They tend to like to prove theories themselves instead of relying on the insight or ideas of others. They are not bound by common and mundane, but like to travel and have new experiences. They value intelligence, but they also enjoy a challenge. They can be rather argumentative when they are being forced or feel as if they are being forced to conform.

Abstract art is, incidentally, my favorite thing to paint too.

....I really, REALLY want that painting.

Why did most of the rest of the abstract pictures in that quiz look like ass, and that one looks awesome?

Apparently I really hate Cubism.

It's ok, I really hate cubism too.

I didn't think they all looked like ass. Seriously, abstract art is either utter crap or pure win, even I'm willing to admit that.

My results were pretty balanced, myself (aside from Cubism). There was stuff from just about every genre that I picked, given the basis for my judgement was "oooh pretty" I'm not sure that says much.

I picked the mecha chess piece because it was awesome.

I like the feeling I get from abstract art because I never feel its trying to dupe me into cheap emotion with religious imagery or pictures of kittens.

Sometimes I feel like it's easy for artists to cop out with other forms of art and still evoke something because we're hard wired to respond. It's always very easy to tell when someone has genuine emotion in their abstract art, so I admire it.

It's also quite hard to do successfully, because if it's not carefully controlled it just ends up looking like splotches on paper. It's easy to go "too far" with abstract art and by that point you're just cluttering up a canvas.

I KNOW RIGHT. Unfortunately, a lot of abstract art is "process". I find it far more time consuming than woooooo draw some people fucking if I want to try to end up with anything even remotely nice.

Klimt is my hero. He like draws people fucking but he has such a sensual line that the line itself and not the figures are where all the feeeeheeelings are. I'm assuming that that is what abstract art is about then? What the laying-down part actually evokes, not necessarily the final product.

Weeeellll yes and no. The hoity toity folks that like to call themselves art professors at my university will agree with you about their PROCESSS OMG SO IMPORTANT EXPRESSION IMPRESSION BLAH BLAH BLAH.

I disagree. It's not good abstract art if it doesn't make you feel something. (even if that something is lol wtf is this big ass red blob doing, is is supposed to sort of look like an amoeba?)

Also, I am a cheater too, because most of the time I don't so much draw art, I draw some people fucking. ;p

lol It's the same reason every humanities prof ever has told me that sex in fiction is "cheap", though.

They say it's: "it elicits a response only on the basest, most instinctual level which is neither lasting nor important" but I assume that really they're just pissed that their "important" works don't get as much attention as paintings of vulvas or sell copies like romance novels.

My response to their reasoning: Fair enough. haha sourpusses.

I was disappointed in the lack of Dali in this quiz. Apparently, I have a strong dislike of both abstract and cubism. (Although, abstract is fine, but I'm not big fan of the cubes).

I actually prefer is older stuff and his non-melty clock paintings, but I just the love way he paints. How does make oils so smooth and shiny? I'm not that great with oils, so I'm naturally envious.

Hmm, for boasting an impressionism category, I'm disappointed that they didn't use Joan Miro as any examples.

Though I wasn't fond of many of the examples outside of the Islamic and Ukiyo-e categories, this one painting was very nice. The intensity of the brushwork and the focus the use of cyan lent were really enjoyable.

I was fond of that one too. My abstracts, like the one above, don't quite break the bounds of traditional linear structure, and I'm always fascinated when I see ones that do it successfully.

Your result for What Your Taste in Art Says About You Test...

Balanced, Secure, and Realistic.

18 Impressionist, 15 Islamic, 4 Ukiyo-e, -24 Cubist, -20 Abstract and 2 Renaissance!

Impressionism is a movement in French painting, sometimes called optical realism because of its almost scientific interest in the actual visual experience and effect of light and movement on appearance of objects. Impressionist paintings are balanced, use colored shadows, use pure color, broken brushstrokes, thick paint, and scenes from everyday life or nature.

People that like Impressionist paintings may not alway be what is deemed socially acceptable. They tend to move on their own path without always worrying that it may be offensive to others. They value friendships but because they also value honesty tend to have a few really good friends. They do not, however, like people that are rude and do not appreciate the ideas of others. They are secure enough in themselves that they can listen to the ideas of other people without it affecting their own final decisions. The world for them is not black and white but more in shades of grey and muted colors. They like things to be aestically pleasing, not stark and sharp. There are many ways to view things, and the impresssionist personality views the world from many different aspects. They enjoy life and try to keep a realistic viewpoint of things, but are not very open to new experiences. If they are content in their live they will be more than likely pleased to keep things just the way they are.
